Position Summary:
Perform a variety of specialized clerical duties for a specified clinical area, such as greeting patients and visitors, composing and work processing a variety of documents and correspondence, relaying routine telephone and in person inquiries, scheduling, processing forms, data entry, and establishing and maintaining records. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.

Related Education and Experience may be substituted for one another on a year for year basis.
• TYPING - Perform a variety of typing assignments, operate a personal computer to enter data, draft, edit, revise and print letters, tables, reports, and other materials
• INTAKE - Greet and direct visitors as appropriate; answer inquiries concerning activities and operations of area; accept, screen, and route telephone calls
• CLERICAL - Sort, screen, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail; draft or prepare responses to routine inquiries; prepare photocopies and facsimiles, and operate a variety of office equipment
• RECORDS - Establish, maintain, process, and update files, records, and/or other documents
• SCHEDULING - Maintain scheduling board ensure accuracy and coordinate service schedules
• REGISTRATION AND DISCHARGE - Verify insurance eligibility and restrictions to include referrals, prior authorization and financial assessment as required; may process patient discharge to include obtaining referrals, scheduling tests and other related activities
• ADMISSION AND DISCHARGE - Assist patients and families with all aspects of the admission and discharge process; communicate and assist in resolving problems
• ERRANDS - Deliver and pick up forms, supplies, and run errands as needed
• COMMUNICATION - Handle and relay basic communications, messages
• DATA AND LOGS - Enter various data into computer; verify data, make corrections and ensure accuracy; maintain a variety of computerized and/or manual logs
• SUPPLIES & EQUIPMENT - Order supplies and equipment; receive and place items in their proper storage area; ensure equipment is in operating order
• CENSUS - Prepare and keep current census sheets and update patient’s attending physician or team as needed based on unit protocol
• PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT - Participate in performance improvement activities and help identify performance improvement criteria
• OTHER - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
• DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

Education Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience Requirements:
• 1/2 year (6 months) directly related experience

Experience Requirements - Preferred:
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
• 1 year directly related experience
• Medical terminology knowledge

Physical Demands Requirements:
