The Belle Isle Nature Center, a facility of the Detroit Zoological Society, holds nature summer camps for the children of Detroit

We seek motivated, dynamic individuals who want to make a difference and share nature with youth in a summer day camp setting

Camp takes place on Belle Isle, near downtown Detroit.Responsibilities include:In collaboration with a Lead Teacher, lead one camp group of 12 youth aged 5 to 12

Camp activities include wildlife hikes, craft and art projects, field trips, team building activities, camp songs, games and conservation projects.Providing kind, positive behavior management and managing the social dynamics of the camp group.Being responsible for the supervision and physical and social safety of their group of students.Building strong relationships with campers and leading excellent age-appropriate programs on environmental topics.Working with a Lead Teacher to mentor and support a teenage Counselor in Training.Communicating effectively with campers, the Lead Teacher, Camp Coordinator, Camp Director, and parents.Following camp policies and procedures at all times.Other duties as assigned.Programs are held outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions

All candidates must attend training (June 25 - June 28, 2019) prior to the start of camp and be available for all seven weeks of camp (July 1 - August 16, 2019).Qualifications:Completion of or enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in General Science, Education, Zoology, Biology or other closely related field OR completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent with multiple years' experience working with youth.Must be over 18 years of age.Enthusiasm for working with students of varying ability levels and backgrounds.Willingness to give and receive help and feedback and work as part of a team.Familiarity with environmental education and outdoor recreation helpful.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Must be available for the entire camp season, June 24 - August 16, 2019, Monday - Friday.Work Environment: Work will be performed in an outdoor environment in various conditions
