The SQL Database Administrator (DBA) plays the key role in insuring the health, data integrity and security of SQL databases in the UofL Health environment. This role includes capacity planning, installation, configuration, database design, migration, performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, as well as backup and data recovery. This individual will interact closely with IT Department Leadership, System Administrators, Application Analysts and Vendors on a routine basis to provide input as to best practices to ensure maximum database uptime, performance, security and scalability.This role will work closely with the following IT Leaders: AVP of Business Intelligence AVP of Information Security Director, Clinical Applications Director, Business Applications


Assisting in database design by:o Making recommendations based on established industry best practiceso Working closely with application vendors to understand application interactions with databases Updating and amending existing databases by:o Assisting in creation of database calls and querieso Performing database software upgradeso Taking corrective actions as a result of monitoring Setting up and testing new database and data handling systems Monitoring database efficiency Sustaining the security and integrity of data Creating complex query definitions that allow data to be extracted Training colleagues in how to input and extract data Maintaining knowledge of organizational policies related to data security, access and availability Maintaining knowledge of organizational change control policies


Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred): Bachelors Degree in Business, Information Science, Computer Science, Informatics or Clinical related field required or if a ULH employee, must currently be enrolled to pursue required degree.Experience (required and preferred): Understanding of structured query language (SQL) Knowledge of 'relational database management systems' (RDBMS), 'object oriented database management systems' (OODBMS) and XML database management systems Experience with their database software/web applications The ability to work quickly, under pressure and to deadlines Up-to-date knowledge of technology and the Data Protection Act and HIPPA
