Responsibilities and Qualifications

The HIS Technician II supports the Health Information Services Department with maintaining and protecting the medical record as a legal document. Ability to perform a variety of technical and clerical functions in the HIS department in accordance with department policies and procedures is required. Responsible for assuring that medical records are received, filed, processed, scanned, analyzed, etc., in a timely and accurate manner to support patient care and patient billing. Makes decisions covered by standard practice instruction. Has limited internal contacts which require good oral communication skills to interact with hospital staff.

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:
• Minimum of 1-year experience in HIM/medical records
• Ability to type 35 words per minute
• Ability to 10-key
• Ability to work in a fast –paced environment, willingness to learn multiple tasks; and ability to maintain a positive presence
• Basic Analytical Skills
• Basic Problem Solving
• Basic Computer Skills
• Experience with scanning documents

Preferred Experience:
• Minimum 2-4-year experience in an acute care medical records department
• Medical Terminology
• Working knowledge of the health record

Health Information Svc Tech I
