Senior Distribution Engineer

System One is currently seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer on a direct hire position located in San Antonio, TX.

Senior Distribution Engineer Responsibilities:
• The Engineer Sr. position is responsible for supporting the electric distribution system reliability, capacity and power quality
• The Engineer Sr. will complete studies and generate system improvement projects supporting adequate voltage, capacity, system protection and power quality and will analyze, design and manage distribution projects for both near term (1-5 years) and long term (6-10 years)
• The Engineer Sr. will be required to work with multiple departments during project creation and make necessary adjustments to coordinate projects when possible
• The Engineer Sr. will also be responsible for reviewing and approving job designs created by the company's planners and provide necessary technical support
• Update distribution planning philosophies and guidelines to ensure quality and efficiency and participate on multiple teams evaluating new technologies and the potential effects they may have on the distribution system
• Technical expert on engineering principles, practices, and procedures of varied fields
• Ability to oversee major engineering projects, programs, and/or initiatives with no supervision
• Provides demonstrated ability to train other engineers on technical issues related to the research, design, development, testing, and analysis of engineering assignments
• Plan adequate distribution circuit and power transformer capacity to serve peak demand and contingencies
• Review and plan improvements projects to maintain adequate voltage and conductor loading levels for the electric distribution system
• Evaluate circuit service areas and protection arrangements for improvements in efficiency and/or reliability
• Monitor distribution circuit power factors and plan efficient circuit reactive power supplies
• Evaluate circuit configurations for installations of automated circuit sectionalizing devices
• Evaluate Distributed Generation (DG) applications and evaluate impact on the distribution system and provide remediation recommendations
• Monitor and study the impacts of new technologies being introduced on the distribution system such as solar, electric vehicles, and energy storage
• Revise load forecast to reflect the current and possible future area development activities and update long range plan
• Forecast demand loads after gathering information from internal sources, Chamber of Commerce, real estate planning and zoning, etc
• Develop conceptual system improvement plans and prioritize all recommended projects with appropriate need by date
• Estimate project costs for all system improvement recommendations
• Work with various areas to integrate maintenance and aging infrastructure plans into system improvement planning
• Document all projects into Long Range Development Plan report along with Transmission Planning, Asset Management, and Power Quality & Reliability
• Work with various engineering areas to provide routine support and evaluate customer driven changes or non-standard request
• Prepare annual reports and present plan to upper management and other engineering areas
• Provide technical support to Retail Energy area, consultants and customers regarding items such as: service coordination, backup generators, cogeneration, DER, or fault data as requested
• Devises and creates new engineering applications, reports, procedures and guidelines
• Appropriately represent Distribution Planning for both internal and external customers
• Perform system protection coordination studies
• Perform motor start analysis
• Performs other duties as assigned

Senior Distribution Engineer Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university
• Must possess a Texas Professional Engineer (PE) certification
• 8 years' experience in power systems analysis, distribution and or substation engineering
• Preferred: 10 years' experience in power systems analysis, distribution and or substation engineering
• Exhibits the highest level of engineering judgment/technical expertise and may include limited supervisory responsibilities
• Knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution design and construction standards
• Knowledge of GIS/Designer, Work Manager, and SAP
• Knowledge of CYME or equivalent power analysis software
• Knowledge of PI ProcessBook/Historian
• Knowledge of MicroStation CAD drafting program
• Experience with modeling distributed energy resources
• Experience with Volt/VAR and CVR management technologies
• Experience with Advanced Metering Infrastructure AMI data analytics
• Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environment
• Ability to drive to and from construction sites, off-site meetings, training sessions or other business related events
• Engineer will also need the ability to attend field meetings located in rough terrain and extreme weather conditions/temperatures at times
• Physical Demands: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
• Job requires manual dexterity, sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, kneeling, and crouching
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and complete projects in a timely basis
• Possess thorough and accurate work habits with good organizational and multitasking skills
• Ability to use personal initiative to recognize needs and perform research when necessary
• Effective written and oral communications skills
• After hours work may be required
